Umi Hotel

16 Leinster Square Bayswater, London W2 4PR

Our Review

Like many London budget hotels, the Umi comprises several Victorian townhouses. This lends it a pleasantly traditional atmosphere, even though the accommodation is fairly basic.

Set in a garden square in the trendy Bayswater area, the Umi Hotel occupies a row of converted Victorian townhouses with attractive primrose yellow façades. The small lobby features blue carpets and pale yellow walls partly covered in eggshell floral wallpaper. The bar has been redecorated and both areas are bright and elegant. The 114 guestrooms vary in size and shape due to the age of the building, but on average they are small. They are decorated in light, neutral tones, complemented by pale wood furniture and patterned bed linen. Named after the year in which Notting Hill was first recognised as a settlement outside London, the hotel’s 1356 restaurant, on the lower ground floor, serves great-value, freshly prepared British food and amazing cocktails, accompanied by funky in house entertainment. Live sports are shown on large plasma screen TVs, creating a fun environment for guests to relax in. This is a pleasant property, well maintained for its class and ideal for those travelling on a budget.
